Homeward Bound

“Homeward bound” is the 3rd last chapter of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which I am a huge fan of. In this chapter, Frodo, Sam et. al. return to the Shire after many and various adventures. They’ve changed, and the Shire has changed.

Well, I’m feeling kinda hobbit-ish right now.

In 1987 I left Cincinnati because of performing arts and a girl.

The girl quickly went on to bigger & better things. That’s not a put down. Great woman.

Performing arts stuck around. In the ensuing 34 years I’ve gotten a chance to do some amazing things with amazing people. I’ve gotten to travel & perform around the world. I’ve taught fitness classes to thousands of folks all over this planet. I’ve met, be-friended, worked & partied with countless cool people. I lived on a freaking cruise ship for 4 years. And yes, I ran away and joined the circus, if only for a year.

Through it all I’ve been based in Southern California. Even when I spent a year in Japan, or touring, or in the Caribbean. I always came back to So. Cal. It’s taught me a lot. And I do love 70 degrees and sunny.

But….

I want to try something different. The benefit of this single, slightly gypsy-ish existence I’ve led is having the freedom to change things up. The only person I’m uprooting is me. I forget that sometimes. I get stuck in a rut of my own creation. Luckily, I do have moments of clarity.

Throughout these 34 years I’ve gotten back to Cincinnati on a semi-regular basis. I still have family back there. I still, against all odds, have friends back in the Queen City. And the last couple times I’ve got home, it’s been with a different eye. It’s a different city than the one I left in 87. So…

Yup….

I’m moving back. I’m not tethered to So Cal. I stepped away from my corporate job, and they reminded me clearly that there is no going back (different story, and not a sad one). I’ve looked around for 15 months or so and haven’t found another obsession. Do I have friends out here? Hell yes, and they treat me far better than I have any right to expect. But it’s not like I’m jumping into a volcano or going to Mars. The internet has made the world a very small place, and if you know me you know I’ll jump on a plane in a heartbeat.

Is this forever? Who knows. For now I’ve got a 12 month lease on a studio in Mt. Adams (for those of you who know Cinti). After that? Who knows. Ask me in Feb. 2023.

What’s this got to do with Wellness, Bob?

I’ve always said ” like your life or change it”. I think making this change will be interesting, challenging &, maybe most importantly, fun. I think there is Wellness to be had there.

OK, I’ve got some packing to do.

Talk Later,

Bob
