Holy Mother of Pearl.
It’s been 5 years. Well almost 5 years. The first Practically Well post was, well, posted, on October 15th, 2018. Titled “What is Practically Well?”. In it I talked mostly about me (shocker). About my fitness journey, from fat & sedentary to fit-ish and kinda active. About getting into the fitness industry and being a group instructor & trainer. About every once in a while seeing someone actually change their life for the better, and wanting Practically Well to be a part of that. Back then, I also wanted to give my perspective as a 58 year old ( oh, to be young again…) Mid-westerner in Los Angeles, the Mecca of miracle diets, fitness fads and gadgets. And we’ve done a bit of that over the years, taking a look at ;
Gluten,
Cryotherapy,
Cupping,
Alexander Technique,
CBD,
Life Coaching,
Yoga,
Fasting,
Juicing,
Kizomba,
Supplementation,
Grounding,
Scraping,
…just to name a few. And this list counts as my digression….
….but I digress…
230 posts. 230-ish digressions. 230 “talk laters”.
I’ve also noticed, as I go back over these posts, that as time has gone by I have strayed into a bit more personal content. My pet peeves, my opinions on how folks should treat other folks, my view of the world in general. If you read these things, you know I’ve gone from L.A. & corporate America to Cincinnati & “semi-retirement”. I call it “semi” because I feel like I’m running a small business these days, shilling for Robert Tully, actor / singer / non-dancer. I’m the whole business, from sales to Q.A. to accounts payable & receivable. In fact I just had to add on “collections” for a tardy client, but that’s another story.
I’ve been asked how much I make from this.
HAAA!
I’ve had a lot of offers to help me monetize this site, mostly from folks I don’t know, whom I suspect would like to charge me money, thus monetizing their business.
No thanks.
So what do I get out of this?
First, like I said above, I actually like the idea of sharing my thoughts, opinions in a motivating way, so that maybe someone decides to take a step to make themselves a healthier, happier person. “Well if HE can do it…”, that sort of thing. I don’t want to proselytize fitness. If it’s not your thing, if you’d rather enjoy eating, smoking & drinking til the wheels come off, God bless. That is your choice. But if you wish you could make a change, and one of these streams of consciousness has helped you, I’m happy for that. I also think that this is a creative outlet for me. When I’m not getting cast, not getting dates and not getting, well, you know, this gives me a feeling that I am contributing to society in general, somehow.
What do you get out of it?
Hopefully, occasional amusement. I think I’m funny. In fact I think I’m hilarious, to some people. To others I am puzzling, self obsessed or boring. I’m good with that. It’s when I try to be all things to all people that I tend to lose myself. I’d rather be me, and let the chips fall where they may.
So, yes, I hope you’re amused.
And I hope that, every once in a while, something provides a spark to someone. Gets them to look into something new, try a new activity or a new wellness idea. In blogging about all this stuff, Ive actually tried most of them. Some I’ve enjoyed, some not so much. But that’s the big wide world, isn’t it?
So, I think we’ll just keep on keeping on. Thank you to you folks who tune in, whether every week or from time to time. I sincerely appreciate it. But for now ( damn, this was long, wasn’t it…) ,
Talk Later,
Bob
